Meanwhile for now, this year's instructions are kept below:

The following instructions provide a brief overview to successfully apply for our scholarship(s). As an affiliate chapter of Scholarship America, we use their computer system to manage the tracking and accounting of our awards. The system is designed to create a student profile that then matches you to available scholarships across all of Scholarship America. The guide below will only focus on our scholarship requirements.

Our scholarships are based on merit and financial need. Eligible students from Milford include those who will graduate / graduated high school in 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016. Eligible students from Mason include those who will graduate / graduated from Milford High School in 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016.

Some common misconceptions:

  • Scholarships are automatically awarded -- There is no guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded even with SVDFS volunteer hours, we view this as service to the community and paying it forward, although we try to maximize the number of awardees.
  • Scholarships are automatically renewed -- Students must fully re-apply each year.
  • Requirements remain unchanged year after year -- Each year may have different requirements.
  • Submission to a scholarship in the system means you're fully qualified -- You may still have pending requirements to meet, please ask to confirm if you are unsure.
  • You will be reminded of requirement shortfalls -- While we may contact you for missing information, you are solely responsible to complete all requirements before the scholarship window closes.

To Begin, Create a Login. Go to our web site at and click on the "Students & Parents" tab. On that page click on the "Click to Login" button to go to the login page at There you can sign in with your previous account login or if new, create a login to the online system. The login registration process creates your initial profile under the My Information section. Previous users should still see their previous data.

The only Profile categories that we use are ..

  • Basic Info -- complete ** items as a minimum
  • Additional Info -- complete ** items as a minimum
  • Schools -- complete ** items as a minimum
  • References -- high school students only to request a counselor reference online, college students should ignore this

.. Anything else in the profile is optional and may help you match to other scholarship opportunities with other chapters or Scholarship America. You don't need for your profile categories to be "Green" to match and Submit to our scholarship(s).

SUBMIT to our scholarship(s) in your student account to be considered. First login, search for our scholarship, click yes to our affiliate question, then click the Submit App button. This should be done before any of the other requirements -- which can be completed afterwards but before the close date.

Additional requirements for a High School Senior:

  1. High School Reference -- Request in their profile that their school counselor submit a reference into their profile.
  2. Latest Cumulative GPA -- Request that their school counselor submit their latest cumulative GPA into your profile.
  3. EFC -- Student downloads their FAFSA SAR (Student Aid Report) and emails at least page(s) 1 and/or 2 to the webmaster (see below) who will verify that it has the student's name, FAFSA year 2019-2020, and EFC data.* He will then email a reply for confirmation of receipt or request more information.

Additional requirements for a College Student who graduated in 2018, 2017, or 2016:

  1. SVDFS Volunteer Hours -- Minimum 5 hours from May 2018 through April 15, 2019 if not used for the 2018 scholarship year. Questions about the hours count may be asked by email to where the official count is maintained.
  2. Latest Cumulative GPA -- Requests from their school that their latest official transcript be mailed to our mailing address (see below) or that a link to their latest official transcript to be emailed to our webmaster (see below) who will verify the latest cumulative GPA. He will then email a reply for confirmation of receipt or request more information.

*A sample document from last year is linked. You can get a copy of your SAR by logging into using your FSA ID and selecting the "View or Print your Student Aid Report (SAR)" option toward the bottom of the page. A file format of PDF is preferred, but JPG, JPEG, or PNG is also acceptable, even if it's created from a readable screenshot.
